To understand the “Quiver Crawl”, one must first understand the origin of the term “quiver”. More specifically, one must understand the phrase “empty the quiver”.

Let’s go back to Tuesday, October 8th, 2013. The Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays were playing Game 4 of the ALDS. Via NESN’s update of the game:

The Red Sox staged a rally in the top of the frame, eventually taking the lead 2-1. Before they took the run-advantage though, the Sox were busy getting pumped up about knotting the score at 1-1, thanks to a wild pitch.

Boston’s enthusiasm was contagious, but unfortunately Jonny Gomes‘ celebration was not.

Quiver

As a retort to Fernando Rodney’s “Bow and Arrow” celebration, clubhouse leader extraordinaire Jonny Gomes was emptying the Rays’ quiver leaving them with no more arrows to shoot.

The Red Sox ended up defeating the Rays – and the Tigers and the Cardinals – on their way to their 3rd World Championship of the decade.

In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day – Boston’s favorite holiday – a group of Bostonians agreed to come together and celebrate the Red Sox, Fenway Park, the 2013 World Champions, Jonny Gomes, the emptied quiver, St. Patrick’s Day, and beer.

So it has been written, that as the South Boston St. Patrick’s Parade approaches, the Quiver Crawl will take over Landsdowne St., Brookline St., and the Fenway bar scene.

As a bar crawl entering it's sixth year, the Quiver Crawl attendee list has grown 55% year over year since it's inaugural crawl.
  • The 2014 Quiver Crawl was the first to incorporate event t-shirts
  • The 2016 Quiver Crawl was the first to have the Official Quiver Crawl Pancake Breakfast™ the morning of the event
  • The 2017 Quiver Crawl was the first to have the "Quiver Crawl Eve" welcome party
